Windstar Cruises, known for its boutique small-ship experiences, is expanding its fleet by adding two 224-passenger vessels acquired from Mystic Cruises. The first of these vessels, Star Seeker, is set to debut in December 2025, followed by Star Explorer in December 2026. Currently, Star Explorer operates under Quark Expeditions as World Explorer, while Star Seeker is still under construction. Both ships will undergo renovations to incorporate Windstar’s signature features, including a watersports platform, Owners Suites with wraparound balconies, and a whirlpool on the bow.
Dining experiences will be a focal point on these ships, given Windstar’s partnership with the James Beard Foundation. The dining spaces will be enhanced to include the on-deck Star Grill, the casual Yacht Club café and lounge, and a redesigned Amphora main dining room with outdoor seating. Christopher Prelog, Windstar Cruises’ president, emphasized the effort put into ensuring these ships retain Windstar’s distinct identity while offering new and exciting experiences for guests and travel partners.
While both vessels have ice-strengthened hulls suitable for polar regions, Windstar currently focuses on itineraries in the Americas, Europe, and the Pacific Islands. However, the addition of these new ships hints at potential future adventures in polar regions. Andrew N. Todd, president and CEO of parent company Xanterra Travel Collection, expressed enthusiasm about Windstar’s growth prospects and the opportunities it brings to passengers and crew alike.
