Exclusive: Indulge in Luxe Resort’s Private Wine Experience!

Montage Healdsburg, nestled amidst Sonoma County’s picturesque oak groves and vine-covered hills, has evolved from a vision into a reality over the years. Long before earning accolades as one of the best new hotels globally, the property’s owners harbored ambitions of crafting signature wines from grapes grown in their own vineyard. This dream has now materialized into Surveyor, the resort’s private estate-bottled wine label, produced in collaboration with winemaker Jesse Katz of Aperture Cellars nearby.

The journey to Surveyor’s debut has been a meticulous one, spanning several years of planning and execution. From the initial planting of vines five years ago to hiring a vineyard designer and winemaker eight years ago, and finally, unveiling the label nearly two decades after acquiring the property, each step has been imbued with patience and dedication. Surveyor’s inaugural vintage includes a 2021 Sauvignon Blanc and a 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, available exclusively at Montage Healdsburg, adding an exclusive touch to the guest experience.

The significance of wine to the resort is underscored by the fact that the winemaker, Jesse Katz, was brought on board well before the hotel’s construction commenced. Katz’s expertise and reputation in the wine industry, coupled with his knack for creating exceptional wines, made him an ideal choice for this endeavor. His meticulous approach to selecting and planting grape varietals across the resort’s acres reflects a deep understanding of terroir and a commitment to quality.

Katz’s attention to detail extended beyond vineyard cultivation to enhance the guest experience. Rows of vines were strategically oriented to offer picturesque views from the resort, and educational elements, like custom metal signs distinguishing different varietals, were incorporated into the design. This thoughtful approach ensures that visitors not only enjoy fine wines but also gain insights into winemaking and grape varieties.

The wines themselves, Surveyor 2021 Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon, reflect Katz’s craftsmanship and the unique terroir of Sonoma County. The Sauvignon Blanc delights with zesty citrus notes, while the Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in French oak barrels, boasts a rich profile with hints of blackberry and lavender. Guests can savor these wines at various locations within the resort, enhancing their stay with locally sourced cuisine and captivating vineyard views.

For Katz, the realization of Surveyor represents the culmination of a vision rooted in the belief that Montage Healdsburg’s vineyards possess something truly exceptional. The wines, exceeding expectations, now stand as a testament to this belief, inviting guests to indulge in the beauty of wine country and create lasting memories with each sip.
